Over the past year, WCF has been working towards a renewed vision of small groups and the role they play in the life of the church. In 2020, a Small Group Task Force gathered to help us in this endeavor. A significant recommendation from the Small Group Task Force was designating a Small Group Coordinator to provide leadership and coordination to the small groups at WCF. With the support of the Elders and Deacons, a paid position was approved for this purpose.

I’m pleased to announce that our very own Kate Lawson-Hedger has added Small Groups Coordinator to her current role as Minister for Children and Communications, bringing her to full-time hours as of May 2021. Her wisdom, joy and leadership will be a great asset to help bring greater vitality and deeper community in the Small Groups at WCF. With the support of the Small Groups Advocates team consisting of Doug Rheinheimer, Mim Mumaw, Philip Chou and myself, do look forward to hearing announcements about ways to connect in deeper community at WCF.

One of our first initiatives will be a Small Group Incubator. If you’re not actively meeting in a small group at the moment (or you just want to find out more about small groups), join us for a monthly small group experience that begins Sunday, June 27 from 11:30am - 12:30pm at the church. Participants will be led through a spiritual nurture component by one of the Elders and break into smaller groups for discussion and prayer.

To find out more about the direction of Small Groups in light of the recommendations of the Small Groups Task Force, please go to wcfchurch.org/smallgroups for more information. Or even better, send Kate an email about your interest or questions about Small Groups at WCF.

This Sunday, we begin a new sermon series entitled God’s Transforming Justice, where we will journey through the lectionary readings of the summer months with an eye for God’s justice at work in Scripture.

Growing in the ways of Jesus together with you,

Pastor Andrew
